How to make pickle in European way?

Hey foodies,
Ever wondered, what makes ‘hamburgers’ in US and Canada so wonderful? That is, the different tangy taste in it, that comes because of pickle added in it.
But, pickle in burger? May not sound ordinary. But it’s not the normal pickle. It’s generally thin slices of the whole pickled cucumber, which is prepared in European way. So let’s know the recipe to make pickles in European way:

A CLASSIC RECIPE OF CUCUMBER PICKLE

INGREDIENTS REQUIRED :

  • Cucumbers (small pickling cucumbers work best)
  • White vinegar
  • Water
  • Salt
  • Sugar
  • Fresh dill
  • Garlic cloves
  • Peppercorns
  • Mustard seeds (optional)
  • Glass jars will be needed in order to prepare and store the pickle

STEPS TO FOLLOW :

  1. Wash and sterilize jars and lids.
  2. In a saucepan, add equal parts of water and white vinegar. Add salt and sugar to taste, typically 1 tablespoon of salt and sugar per cup of liquid.
  3. Heat the liquid mixture until the salt and sugar dissolve. Let it cool.
  4. Pack the cucumbers (without peeling) into the jars, adding fresh dill, garlic cloves, peppercorns, and mustard seeds between the layers.
  5. Pour the cooled liquid over the cucumbers, ensuring they are completely covered.
  6. Seal the jars and refrigerate for a few days before enjoying. The longer they sit, the more flavoured they become.

Note: This is a basic recipe, and seasonings can be adjusted as per your liking. Some European pickles also involve fermentation, which requires a different process.

Try and enjoy the taste of European delicacies with the pickle. Savour the tanginess in your meals.
